The War Against Greece and Yugoslavia

“War of '40” or “Battle of Greece" was a conflict between Italy and Greece which lasted from October 28, 1940 to April 23, 1941. It marked the beginning of the Balkans Campaign of World War II. From the April 6, 1941 intervention of Nazi Germany onwards, this conflict is known as the Battle of Greece.

The Kingdom of Yugoslavia was invaded by the Germany in 1941 and parts of Dalmatia (Croatia) were annexed to Italy. The local population was subject to violent forced Italianization by the Fascist government. Several concentration camps were established by Italian authorities to house these "enemies of the state", including the infamous Gonars and Rab Concentration Camps.
